The Redmi Note 12R might become the first phone with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2

Xiaomi quietly launched the Redmi Note 12R Pro back in April, a CNY 1,800 ($250/€230/INR 20,500) phone with Snapdragon 4 Gen 1. But there was no vanilla model – until now. The Redmi Note 12R (23076RA4BC) has just appeared on China Telecom’s website and, interestingly, it has a better chipset.
It’s not confirmed, but the SM4450 phone chip is expected to be labeled as “Snapdragon 4 Gen 2” when Qualcomm unveils it. It is reportedly built on a 4nm Samsung node (instead of 6nm TSMC for 4 Gen 1). The phone can be configured with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage, and there’s also a microSD slot.
The carrier also provided some other key details. The 12R is equipped with a large 6.79” FHD+ display (so it will be a head taller than the 12R Pro and its 6.67” display). The camera is pretty basic with a 50MP main module and a 2MP secondary module (the Pro isn’t much better in this regard).
Additional details include size and weight – 168.6 x 76.3 x 8.17mm and 199g. This is with a 5000mAh battery built in (charging speed TBA). In addition to the USB-C port, the phone also has a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
According to China Telecom, the Redmi Note 12R will launch in China on June 30, which could make it the first device to use Snapdragon 4 Gen 2. Here are the prices in China:
RAM/storage | Price | in USD (converted) |
4/128 GB | 1100 CNY | 153 dollars |
6/128 GB | 1200 CNY | 167 dollars |
8/128 GB | 1600 CNY | 223 dollars |
8/256 GB | 1800 CNY | 250 dollars |
The phone will be available in three colors – Midnight Black, Sky Fantasy and Time Blue – the latter of which you can see in the images shared by the operator.
